Topic: Mini Vandaceous Species and Hybrids for the Home Grower

One of Alan’s favorite subjects with lots of variety, colorful flowers and plants that will flower several times a year. Learn which plants to pick and how to grow them.

He will have orchids for sale at our meeting. You can also preorder plants no later than the afternoon of November 5, 2017 from his select plant lists below. All orders will get a 10% discount and free freight, orders over $150 get a 20% discount and free freight.

  1. Under discount enter the following code, GCOD (case sensitive)
  2. Under shipping enter ship to a society
  3. Under comments enter the name of your society or event we are to bring your plants.
You may email in your pre-order or call it in. This can be paid through their Paypal account via  gcorchids@aol.com, with your credit card if you phone in your order or at the meeting with cash or check.

Alan's Bio
Alan Koch owns and operates Gold Country Orchids where he specializes in miniature and compact Cattleya. Alan started growing orchids in 1969 with three Cymbidiums given to him by an aunt. While in college he became interested in other orchids and discovered many would grow outdoors in Southern California. He has moved five times as his orchid obsession has led to the need for more growing space. With the last move, he purchased ten acres of land in Lincoln, California for his 250,000 orchids.

Alan is recognized as an expert in the Brazilian Cattleya alliance and a trendsetter in miniature Cattleya breeding. He has been published in the Orchid Digest, the American Orchid Society magazine, as well as many international publications. He has also been published in several proceedings of the World Orchid Conference.

Alan is an internationally known speaker. He is a past member of the AOS Judging Committee, and the Research Committee, as well as an Accredited Judge and is the Training Coordinator for the California Sierra Nevada Judging Center. He also served two terms on the Orchid Digest Executive Committee and thee terms on the Board of Directors, as well as two terms as a Trustee for the AOS.
