Kristen Uthus ~ New World Orchids ~ will talk about 'Cattleya Relatives'

  • 08 Jul 2025
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • SOI 117 Swanton Street

Dr. Kristen Uthus studied both plant and animal ecology and evolution at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and the Ohio State University (OSU). She then taught biology and ecology at several colleges including VCU, OSU, University of Michigan, and Eastern Michigan University. The daughter of a plant fanatic, Kristen has been growing orchids for over 30 years, and in 2014 she fulfilled her dream of making orchids a full-time commitment by purchasing NWO. Although she enjoys growing many varieties of orchids and other plants miniatures remain her passion—she says "the weirder the better"!

Cattleya Relatives: The Miniature Collection

The genus Cattleya now contains many of its close relatives like Laelia and Sophronitis, but what about those genera that still stand alone? Those plants that fall under the category “Cattleya relatives not listed above” in the show schedule?  I will talk about several well-known and some lesser known Cattleya relatives and how to grow them.  Members can pre-order plants and receive 10% off.  Pre-orders can be made through email, and people can pay at the meeting (cash and check are preferred).
